USA Men's 15s Head Coach Gary Gold has selected a preliminary roster of 41 players for the USA's July test matches.

Roughly 75% of the roster—a total of 31 players—represent Major League Rugby clubs, an indication of how important it is for players to get playing time. Another 15 players have the opportunity to be capped for the first time.

Gold and staff will continue to evaluate this roster over the coming weeks and make final selections for the 30 players who will travel to England and Ireland. Those who are not selected from this list will serve as injury reserves.

“It’s taken us some time to come up with this list of players and I’m very happy to see this group of guys make even more strides in the coming weeks," said Gold. “A huge thank you to all the MLR clubs, not just for working with us as we select this group, but also in delivering a competitive training and competition environment that will help us get on the front foot in the short time we have ahead of facing England and Ireland. We still have some work to do in terms of making final selections but we are excited to see the final squad of 30 come together and to play some meaningful games this year.”

Alongside the roster, the Eagles staff also welcomes Rob Hoadley as Assistant Coach and Eagle Alumnus Chris Wyles as a Coach Consultant for the July tests specifically. Hoadley has an extensive coaching background with stints at Wasps, Stanford University, and San Diego Legion, to name a few, while Wyles most recently spent 10 years with Saracens and was capped over 50 times by the USA.

The official traveling roster for the Eagles’ summer test series will be announced in late June.

Following July, the Eagles will assemble again in September for a two-part Rugby World Cup qualification series against rivals Canada. The Eagles will host the second match on September 11 at Infinity Park in Glendale, Colo.. Details for the first match are to be confirmed. A final qualification series against a team from South America may follow along with a fall test schedule that is currently being organized. USA Rugby streaming

USA Rugby launches their official Olympic kit

Tokyo, USA Rugby, its Official Sportswear Partner Canterbury and World Rugby Shop have revealed the official match kit for the USA Men’s and Women’s Sevens National Teams. USA Eagles Rugby

Adorned with a series of stripes that, together, create a five-pointed U.S. star, the overall design of the jersey will be consistent across all four of USA Rugby’s National Teams, uniting the Eagles under one cohesive look. Both fifteens programs will wear the traditional USA Rugby badge while the sevens programs will sport a unique and special emblem for Tokyo, inspired by the original 1920 USA crest.

The emblem pays homage to the Eagles who won back-to-back gold medals at 1920 Antwerp and 1924 Paris events. Featuring two gold stars, positioned on each side of USA, the crest symbolizes both monumental victories for the United States. Underneath the base are seven stripes to represent the discipline that now carries the legacy of those original gold medalists into the future.

“Tokyo will be one of the most iconic events in the sporting calendar and we are really looking forward to seeing the USA Rugby teams stepping out in Canterbury kits on one of the biggest stages of them all.

“We know the United States has a rich history in rugby and that was a key consideration for us when designing the kits, as well as ensuring the kit worked for both the men’s and women’s teams. We are honored to support the teams as they look to build on this with a bold showing in Tokyo and hope this can prove another catalyst to continue the growth of the game.”

Official Canterbury replica jerseys with the USA’s special emblem for Tokyo are on sale now at worldrugbyshop.com. Jerseys with USA Rugby’s traditional Eagle badge will be available in the late summer.

Both USA Sevens teams are officially in training for the Tokyo Olympic Games which kick off on July 23 with the Opening Ceremonies. The USA Women end one phase of their regular season this week, entering a selection period where the Olympic team will be named on June 17. For the USA Men, players will continue to fight for spots with a public announcement date set for July 2. All Blacks vs USA Rugby

IRELAND TO FACE USA EAGLES IN SUMMER TEST AFTER FIJI TOUR CANCELLED

Ireland will face the USA Eagles in a summer test match at the Aviva Stadium, as the IRFU's end of season schedule begins to take shape. USA Eagles Rugby

The IRFU have been left to make alternative arrangements after their proposed tour of Fiji was cancelled due to Covid-19 fears, following an outbreak in the Pacific Island.

And while the union are yet to announce their revised summer schedule, USA Eagles head coach Gary Gold confirmed his side would be travelling to Dublin to take on Andy Farrell's side on the weekend of July 10.

Speaking to Alex Corbisiero's American Rugby Show podcast, the USA Eagles head coach Gary Gold said his side have been booked in for games against both England and Ireland in July.

"What our schedule is that has just been confirmed is that on July 3rd we'll be playing England at Twickenham in our first game that we play since returning from Covid and the Rugby World Cup and a week later we're due to play Ireland at the Aviva," Gold said.

Games against Canada and Japan are also a possibility, with Andy Farrell looking for opportunities to blood younger players into his squad, with a hopefully healthy contingent of first-team stars unavailable due to Lions selection, which will be revealed o Thursday. USA Sevens Rugby live

The USA Eagles squad is likely to feature a number of Irish-born players, notably Sale Sharks and former Connacht outhalf AJ MacGinty, Wexford hooker Dylan Fawsitt and Inishmore prop Paul Mullen all part of their 2019 World Cup squad, as well as Cork flanker John Quill who has since retired back home to Ireland.

Ireland's last meeting against the Americans came in November 2018, as Ireland followed up their famous win versus the All Blacks with a comfortable 57-14 victory at the Aviva Stadium.

The IRFU officially confirmed the cancellation of their summer tour to Fiji on Friday, with performance director David Nucifora saying they would confirm new fixture details in due course.

"A great deal of effort has gone into the planning of the Tour which was predicated on a safety first approach. Fiji up until this point had been relatively untouched by the pandemic but that picture has quickly changed and unfortunately it is no longer viable to proceed with the tour.

"The rugby challenge in Fiji would have been formidable and would have exposed our players to the athleticism and skillset that the Fijians are famous for. It would have provided a significant developmental window for the national group considering that they also missed out on a summer tour in 2020. Watch USA Rugby online

"I would like to thank the Fijian Rugby Union, the Fijian government and World Rugby for their support over the past few months and I have no doubt it would have been a successful and fantastic touring experience.

"We will continue to explore alternative arrangements with our partner Unions," Nucifora said.
